Curious about the incredible wetland species we have here in the Pacific Northwest exclusively during the winter? Join professional naturalist and experienced birder Kate Brown for a relaxed Sunday morning bird walk at Fir Island Reserve, focusing on wetland birds. We will chat about what to look and listen for while birding, discuss some of the common winter species we are likely to spot and what makes them unique- then set out with our binoculars and scope to see what amazing birds we can find! Bring your coffee, donuts, and any binoculars you might have (I own a few to share!) Species commonly sighted here include scaup, gadwall, snowgeese, tundra swans, and great blue herons.

Location+Accessibility Note: We will be meeting at Fir Island Farm Reserve (Skagit wildlife Area). The Street address is 15802 Fir Island Rd, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. The entirety of the trail is flat gravel and there are bathroom facilities on-site.

Binocular Donation: If you happen to own any pairs of functional binoculars that you no longer use, we are always accepting donations so that we have quality pairs to loan out to participants, helping us keep birding as accessible as possible for everyone in our community.
